Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy 10 will finally sport a display notch, but it won’t be like anything we’ve seen before.
At this year’s developer conference (at 1 hour 22 minutes in), Samsung confirmed that it’s working on new display styles that further shrink the bezel of its smartphones.
But a new leak from Korean outlet ETnews suggests that Samsung might bring that technology to the Galaxy S10. In essence, the new “Infinity-O” display removes the top and bottom bezels – or at least scales them back significantly – and places the front facing camera sensor in a single, small hole on the screen.
This will increase the overall screen to body ratio and Samsung is hoping it will act as a differentiator between its Galaxy range and all other devices with large, oblong shaped, notches – according to a source quoted in the ETnews report.
Noted leaker Ice Universe has backed this up with an image of an Infinity O cover glass that’s apparently intended for the upcoming Galaxy A8.
Samsung isn’t the only Android manufacturer chasing this new display technology, though. Huawei is teasing the exact same camera-cut out display for an upcoming device next month, which will quickly scupper Samsung’s plans for the Infinity-O being a differentiator.
